PRP Treatment

What is PRP? It is a concentration of platelets that are suspended in a small amount of the patient’s own plasma. Most of the time, this is performed as a 50-minute in-office procedure. Blood is spun or centrifuged and the platelets isolated.

Platelets are small kernels in the blood that have numerous growth factors, or healing power. By concentrating the healing power, in a small amount of plasma volume, and when introduced into torn tendons or ligaments- stimulate healing. With arthritis they decrease inflammation and reverse the degradation process and create an anabolic process.

Dr. Bennett has utilized this technique and can direct the needle under direct visualization into the injured site using an MSK Sonosite Ultrasound machine.

PRP stimulates better cartilage healing and when used in conjunction with minimally invasive procedures, can stimulate the cartilage to regenerate.

Numerous patients who were faced with surgical procedures have avoided surgery with Dr. Bennett’s application of PRP in this fashion.

Why Choose PRP Treatment for your Ankle?

Studies have even shown that your own PRP is better than lubricating injections for cartilage healing…..PRP or Hyaluronate in the Management of Osteochondral Lesions of the Talus, Omer Mei-Dan, Israel. Osteochondral lesions of the ankle treated with intra-articular injections of PRP and HA resulted in a decrease in pain scores and an increase in function for at least 6 months, with minimal adverse events. Platelet-rich plasma treatment led to a significantly better outcome than Hyaluronic Acid.
